Magpie Primary School aims to provide a nurturing and challenging environment that promotes an enthusiasm for learning and prepares individuals to become reflective and valued members of society. The school and community have a rich and proud history, yet still today offer a diverse and 21st century curriculum and learning environment.

The key focus of the school is on literacy and numeracy but the school also offers the following specialist subjects on a weekly basis: PE/Health, Arts, Drama, LOTE (Auslan), ICT, Science, Indigenous Studies and SOSE. The use of technology in our classrooms is used to enhance students learning. All classrooms have Apple TV’s, computers and IPads.

Bi-annual the school holds a Community Art Expo and School Production.

Other Programs that Magpie PS offer are:

  • Swimming – 2 week program at Federation University (10 sessions)
  • Camps – 3 to 5 day camps each year
  • Winter Sports – Participate with other small schools within Wathaurung Cluster to participate (but not limited to) in the following sports: AFL, Soccer, Netball, Basketball, Hockey, Lacrosse, Tee-ball etc
  • Wathaurung District – From our Winter Sports, students have the opportunity to be selected in the Wathaurung District team to represent our school/district at SSV events.
  • Cross Country – Students represent their house group at school and then have the opportunity to progress onto Division, Districts, Regions then State Championships.
  • Athletics – Students represent their house group at school and then have the opportunity to progress onto Division, Districts, Regions then State Championships.
  • Bike Education Program – Students from grade 3 to 6 participate in a 6 week bike education program with the end goal being able to complete the end of year ride. Previous rides has seen the school complete are: City Loop (Melbourne), Barwon River Ride (Geelong), Skipton Trail.
  • Excursions – The school regularly hold incursions or excursions around the curriculum.
